SELECTION
The residency is overseen by a panel of nominators, who each present between three and five artists, ensuring that there is a sufficient diversity in both approaches and styles. For this project, which immerses the chosen candidate in nature and the lives of the Château Palmer teams, the nominated artists must be renowned for their vision and sense sharing and dialogue. A resident artist is then picked by a guest jury, who consult closely with the INSTANTS artistic committee.

SPACE & TIME
The residency is hosted on the Château Palmer estate, covering several phases of research and creation, throughout the seasons of a wine vintage. Carte blanche is given to unique artistic experiments, which can be both free and rooted in the setting. The artist is chosen each year in January, while their production then stretch from February to the following October.

FINANCING & GUIDANCE
Financing is fixed at €10,000 per artist for the entire residency, not counting accommodation costs, travel costs, per diem costs, and different outputs organized as part of the program. Our preferred partner Leica Camera France provides the artist with its cutting-edge cameras and lenses, and the nominee is guided and supported through each step of their research, production, post-production, and the different outputs resulting from the residency.

ARTISTIC OUTPUT
There are various forms of output from the INSTANTS residency at Château Palmer. This includes the publishing of an art book, the preview presentation at the Clémentine de la Féronnière gallery, the production of an exhibition hosted for three months at the Leica Store Village Royal in Paris (from April to June), and any other display or organized showing decided upon by the artist, which is developed and supported by Château Palmer and its partners.

DAMARICE AMAO
Curator at the Cabinet de la Photographie for the Musée National d’Art Moderne – Centre Pompidou

‍Damarice Amao is a photography historian with a PhD in art history. She co-curated the exhibitions Eli Lotar (Jeu de Paume, 2017), Photography, Weapon of Class (Centre Pompidou, 2018), and Dora Maar (2019), and co-edited the accompanying catalogs. At the Les Rencontres d’Arles photography festival, she has presented the exhibitions Charlotte Perriand: Politics of Photomontage (2021) and Nicole Gravier: Myths and Clichés (2023), as well as Unframing Colonialism: Anticolonialism, Surrealism, Modern Photography (2022-2023) at the Centre Pompidou.

EMILIA GENUARDI
Specialist in Contemporary Photography and Exhibition Curator

‍Emilia Genuardi founded the a ppr oc he fair in 2017, aimed at artists experimenting with images. She jointly heads up the event’s art direction alongside guest curators every year. In 2023, she created unRepresented by a ppr oc he, the first fair devoted to artists without gallery representation. The same year, a ccr oc he, the production team behind the fair, launched PROCHE, an organization providing moral and financial support to promote contemporary artists’ work, events, and projects in France and abroad.

EMMANUELLE HASCOËT
Chief Curator of Contemporary Photography at the BnF

‍Emmanuelle Hascoët joined Magnum Photos as an exhibition manager in 2005, working on projects in France, Southern Europe, and Latin America. Following on from her curatorial activities, she pursued her desire to assist photographers with transdisciplinary projects and founded her own organization, Fovearts, in 2015. Since October 2021, she has been Head of Contemporary Photography at the BnF’s Prints and Photography Department, where she coordinates the French Ministry of Culture’s photo grant, the Grande Commande aux Photojournalistes.

FLORENCE MOLL
Photography Agent and Founder of the FMA Le Bureau photo agency in Paris

‍Alongside photography, Florence Moll is also interested in other forms of visual creation and has recently launched HORS PISTE, devoted to new digital spaces. In 2017, she co-founded Les Filles de la Photo, the first women’s network in the photography ecosystem, and headed up the Observatoire de la mixité dans l'écosystème de la Photographie, a gender diversity watchdog for the photo industry, in 2020 and 2021. She is also a jury member for photography schools, a reader for various organizations, a curator, a nominator, and a consultant for brands, institutions, and private collectors.

VÉRONIQUE PRUGNAUD
Associate Director of the publishing house The Eyes

‍After studying business and cultural project management, Véronique Prugnaud focused on her passion for the world of photography by joining the PARIS PHOTO curatorship in 2009. In 2013, she embarked on a new adventure with the publishing house The Eyes and created the eponymous annual magazine. She has continued working in publishing while producing conferences and providing consulting services for cultural organizations. In 2022, she co-founded Eyes Wide Open, an organization working to develop cultural projects with social objectives. As a pro-bono member of Les Filles de la Photo, she launched and now co-directs the group’s mentoring program.

MARIE MAGNIER
Director of Les Filles du Calvaire Gallery, Paris

After studying Art History with a specialization in photography (École du Louvre and University of Grenoble) and gaining experience in the Photography Department at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), Marie Magnier joined Les Filles du Calvaire gallery in 2000 and now serves as its director. She is frequently invited to participate in award juries, portfolio reviews and other professional engagements, valued for her knowledge of the current art scene, institutional network and expertise in contemporary photography.

SYLVIE HUGUES
Correspondent at the Académie des Beaux-Arts, Artistic Director of the Festival du Regard in Cergy, President of Réseau LUX, National Network of Photography Festivals and Fairs

Sylvie Hugues was editor-in-chief of Réponses Photo magazine from 1996 to 2014. Since 2015, she has collaborated with Camera Obscura gallery. She also conducts portfolio reviews at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie and has been leading masterclasses and workshops since 2016. In 2020, she received the Prix Résidence pour la Photographie from the Fondation des Treilles and served as artistic advisor for the HSBC Photography Prize in 2021. As rapporteur for the Prix Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière, she curated exhibitions for Pascal Maitre and FLORE at the Institut de France.

DELPHINE DUMONT
Director of Le Hangar and Founder of PhotoBrussels Festival
‍
Trained in Economics and communication professions, Delphine Dumont previously worked in advertising and communication agencies in Paris. Upon arriving in Brussels in 2004, she created an event communication agency, DayOff, before taking over the direction of Le Hangar. Delphine Dumont founded PhotoBrussels Festival in 2015, an event that presents photographic exhibitions in various cultural venues across Brussels.

ÉRIC KARSENTY
Journalist and Correspondent at the Académie des Beaux-Arts

A graduate of ENSP Arles, Éric Karsenty worked at Mois de la photographie in Paris before joining a press photography agency as editor-in-chief. A journalism training program led him to work in various media outlets, including Images Magazine. From 2014 to 2024, he served as editor-in-chief of Fisheye magazine, and is now head of its publishing house. As exhibition curator for Les Jours heureux (on the Olympic Games at Paris City Hall) and Notre famille afghane, souvenirs d'une vie envolée by Olivier Jobard at the Institut, he has also been a correspondent at the Académie des Beaux-Arts since 2024.
